These whimsical fairy dwellings are hand carved from the bark of a long dead Plains Cottonwood tree found along the Mississippi River in Minnesota. A great place for fairies to sleep :)This piece is a fully lighted carving, shining a flickering glow through the all of the little windows. Wired with care, using low energy LEDS which means batts last a very long time!(Extras included) A small battery compartment and On/Off switch is located on the back of the piece and it is also signed.
Title "Fairy Village #4" By Jon Gosling
Hand carved windows and doors and shingles, add to the detail, and there are even little nail holes on each carved board. Very rustic! :) I hope you enjoy it as much as I did creating it! A perfect gift for someone special. There is a small balanced hole in the back for hanging as well.
Each layer of bark is paper thin, and equals 1 year of growth for the tree. Some thicker pieces are well over 150 years old. The layers are compressed over the life of the tree and are quite dense when harvested. These "gnome homes" sits on top of hand detailed bricks and rocks. The color of this bark is known as "Minnesota Red" and truly is a stunning hue. Sealed in satin water based varnish for protection.
